HEAD COOK: Diego Hernandez

COMPETITION: World Barbecue Championship


Diego Hernández Carrión is a young culinary talent from Arecibo, Puerto Rico, known for being the youngest Pitmaster to win a Grand Champion title in the island’s BBQ circuit at just 18 years old. He is currently studying Culinary Management at Universidad Ana G. Méndez in Carolina and developing his culinary career in both the competition and restaurant industries. Diego specializes in traditional low & slow barbecue techniques, blending Puerto Rican flavors with competition-level execution. In 2023, he became the youngest competitor to win a sanctioned BBQ event in Puerto Rico, and since then, he has accumulated multiple Grand Champion titles. His mission is to showcase Caribbean barbecue to the world, while promoting innovation and craftsmanship in the smoked meats scene.
